In the far east of Croatia, between the rivers Drava and Danube, lies Kopački Rit Nature Park – one of the most important wetlands in Europe, often called the Croatian Amazon.

The most memorable way to experience Kopački Rit is by joining a boat tour along the calm waters of Kopačko Lake and its canals.

Tours last about 45–60 minutes, departing from the Sakadaš Pier, and are available from spring until late autumn.

📍 How to Get to Kopački Rit

🚗 By Car

Kopački Rit is located only 12 kilometres from Osijek, and it’s easiest to reach by car.
From Osijek, follow the road through Bilje and Vardarac towards Kopačevo, where you’ll find the main entrance and visitor centre.
The road is fully paved, well signposted, and there’s a large parking area for cars and buses next to the centre.

If you’re coming from other parts of Croatia:

• from Zagreb – take the A3 motorway to the Lužani exit, then continue via Đakovo and Osijek (about 3 hours)
• from Vukovar – via Erdut and Bilje (about 1 hour)
• from Baranja – via Beli Manastir and Bilje

💡 Tip: In summer and on weekends, it can get busy — try to arrive early in the morning for a calmer experience.

🚌 By Public Transport

Local buses run several times a day between Osijek and Bilje.
From Bilje to Kopačevo there is no regular bus line, but you can continue by taxi, bicycle, or join an organized tour that includes transport and a guided visit.
During the main season, guided excursions from Osijek and Baranja are also available, often including a boat tour through the wetlands.

For nature lovers and adventurers, reaching Kopački Rit by bicycle from Osijek takes about 40 minutes.
The route passes through Bilje and the scenic Baranja countryside, and part of it connects to the EuroVelo 6 international cycling route, which follows the course of the Danube River.
